Digital Educator - Digital Badges

TU Dublin supports the design, development, validation, and offering of modules under four modes of delivery: On-Campus Technology-Enabled; Blended; Online; and HyFlex. These modes are underpinned by the understanding that TU Dublin is committed to ensuring flexibility in structure, mode & place of delivery to suit an evolving global landscape, and that we seek to provide our students with digitally enhanced learning experiences (Strategic Intent 2030).

To help academic staff demonstrate their expertise in the design and delivery of On-Campus Technology-Enabled, Blended, Online, and/or HyFlex modules, four individual 'Digital Educator' digital badges are on offer. A Digital Badge is a quality-assured form of recognition for a body of practice-based learning undertaken over 20-25 hours.

Earning one of these badges will demonstrate to your peers, both within and beyond our university, that you are accomplished in taking an intentional and thoughtful digital-by-design approach to the design and delivery of a pedagogically sound On-Campus Technology-Enabled, Blended, Online, and/or HyFlex module.

Undertaking any, or all, of these badges will enable you to:

  • Analyse the opportunities and challenges of technology-enabled teaching in that mode of delivery.
  • Select and utilise appropriate digital tools and technologies to enhance teaching, assessment, communication, and collaboration in that mode of delivery.
  • Evaluate and refine technology-enabled teaching practices to improve student learning, accessibility, and inclusion in that mode of delivery.

The four 'Digital Educator' badges are open for applications all year-round. On-demand content aligned with each badge is openly available in Brightspace in the module called Design Your Mode of Delivery and detailed information is provided there about the evidence you will need to submit to apply for the badge. You should have access automatically to that Brightspace module but, if not, please contact the VLE Support team and ask them to enrol you on the module.

If you decide to apply for a badge, please fill in this short form to flag the fact that you have started working on your application. This will help the Digital Education team manage their workload as you will be offered the opportunity for formative feedback as you prepare your evidence.

Please email DigitalEducation@TUDublin.ie when you have uploaded and submitted your application to Brightspace.
