Mark O'Neill

Lecturer

Lecturer at Technological University Dublin on the MSc in Computing (Applied Cyber Security) programme [since 2023], teaching and supervising in the areas of Digital Forensics, Security Intelligence and Network Security.

I am currently a PhD candidate at TU Dublin, where my research examines the detection of child sexual abuse material, with a focus on perceptual hashing and adversarial evasion. My published work spans online trust and safety, cloud security and applied AI.

Prior to academia, I spent 25+ years in industry as a Cloud Technology Architect and cyber security specialist, most recently as Senior Envisioning Architect at Microsoft, where I worked with the Dublin Envisioning Centre on emerging technology strategy for enterprise customers. I continue to consult on cloud, AI and security architecture, which keeps my teaching grounded in current industry practice.

I hold two Master's degrees [in Cloud Computing and Applied Cybersecurity], an MBA, and the CCSP and CCSK cloud security certifications, alongside a number of Microsoft's security and cloud certifications.
