Laura joined the School of Mathematics & Statistics in 2019. She is a lecturer and the work placement coordinator, guiding for our 3rd year undergraduates in applying for internships. She is passionate about teaching and producing industry ready students.
Laura graduated with a BSc in Mathematical Science from UCD (2006) including a year abroad at the University of Melbourne, an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing from the University of Oxford (2008) and a PhD in Tsunami Modelling and Extreme Ocean Waves from UCD under Prof Frédéric Dias (2012).
After that, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science at Monash University (2012-2016). She investigated large scale atmospheric (Rossby) waves and extreme weather events. Prior to joining TUD she spent a year working as a postdoctoral researcher on a joint project with the Earth Institute and the Energy Institute at UCD. During this time, she investigated how weather influences our electricity supply and demand.
Laura also holds a Professional Certificate for Entrepreneurial Educators from UCD Innovation Academy and a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from TU Dublin.
