Thomas is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Mechanical & Design Engineering. He teaches on programmes at level 6,7,8 & 9 and is the current Programme Chair of the level 7 Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in City Campus on Bolton Street. The range of modules taught spans Engineering Science, Mechanics, Product Design & CAD and Entrepreneurship for Engineers. He also supervises level 7 capstone projects, and enjoys facilitating the development of student ideas and helping them develop their project idea to a physical product.

Thomas holds degress in Mechanical Engineering at levels 7 (2012), 8(2013) & 9 (2018) as well as a PG Cert in University Learning and Teaching (2020).

Thomas graduated as a mature student, having completed his undergraduate degree on a part-time basis before returning to education as a full time student for his honours and masters’ degrees. His master’s research was involved the prediction of mechanical properties of bone cement by varying the concentration of antibiotic loading.

During his prior work experience, he was a technical advisor for a number of engineering supply companies, a CAD detailer and as a businees owner primarily supplying the Power Generation, Pharmaceutical and Chemical Industries. He is interested in new product/business ideas in the area of sustainability. Academically he is interested in the development of knowledge and skills that improve employability and career development for students.
