    • Designed by Dublin city architect CJ McCarthy. Constructed of red brick and Mountcharles sandstone, a solid example of a Georgian Revival design. McCarthy was the son of leading Victorian gothic architect JJ McCarthy (1817-82) who was responsible for many churches and Roman-catholic Cathedrals around Ireland.
    • Has been a centre for education for over 100 years - Commenced as College of Technology in 1911, then Dublin Institute of Technology in 1992 & finally achieved University status with Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) in 2018

Fun Facts
  • Plaster representations of artisan figures decorate the hallway and corridors of this ornate building. The figures are casts from John Henry Foley's models for figures at the base of the Albert Memorial on Leinster Lawn. 
  • The Boomtown Rats' first-ever gig took place in this building on 31st October 1975. Bob Geldof and Pete Briquette, two of the founding band members who performed at that gig 50 years ago, returned to the place of the birth of The Boomtown Rats to unveil a commemorative plaque on the front of this historic building.
