Course Title: Master of Science in Mechanical & Electrical Quantity Surveying
The MSc M&E Quantity Surveying programme is a two-year part time programme designed for Quantity Surveyors employed within the construction and built environment sector seeking a specialised qualification in M&E at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
The design, installation, and coordination of Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) building services are central to the performance, safety, and sustainability of modern buildings. The industry now operates within an established landscape of smart, energy‑efficient, and low‑carbon construction, where the complexity of M&E systems and the need for skilled specialists are significant.
Emerging technologies are raising the standard of building design and performance over the whole life, and smart building technologies, renewable energy installations, and integrated digital controls are now regarded as fundamental project requirements rather than optional add-on features. This shift places increased demands on construction professionals, including Quantity Surveyors (QSs), to combine strong traditional measurement, quantification, and costing expertise with specialised M&E knowledge, while also developing competency in emerging enabling technologies.
This programme is designed to equip learners with advanced technical, commercial, coordination and digital skills needed to navigate this evolving landscape and to contribute effectively to modern construction projects in driving effective project outcomes.
As participants are required to be employed within the construction and built environment sector, emphasis is placed on the application of academic theory to practice with applied learning and assessment throughout for real world impact.
Applicants that hold a level 8 honours degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or related discipline (with a second class honours, second division award) may be considered but must be working within an M&E related function within the construction and built environment sector.
Non-standard applicants will be considered in line with the University Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy and will be subject to interview.
If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6.0 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.
