A 'Micro-credential’ is the record of the learning outcomes that a learner has acquired following a small volume of learning. Micro-credentials can be shared and are portable, whether as standalone achievements or components of larger credentials, e.g., major, or non-major awards. They are often focused on developing employability skills and competencies tailored to societal, personal, cultural, or labour market needs.
TU Dublin Micro-credential policy has been informed by the European Approach to Micro-credentials available at https://education.ec.europa.eu/education-levels/higher-education/micro-credentials
TU Dublin have developed a streamlined validation process, to provide for the agile and robust approval of new Micro-Credentials which is outlined in Micro-Credentials Validation Process. To propose a new Micro-Credential, the Micro-Credential Proposal Form should be used and to transition an existing short course / CPD programme into a Micro-Credential, the Micro-Credential Transition Programme Proposal Form should be used.
Details on the operational procedures for managing and providing statements of achievement to learners who successfully complete Micro-Credentials are available in Micro-Credential Operational Processes.
