Over the last few months, several groups of School of Management, People and Organisations students have competed and performed outstandingly in several international case competitions across the globe, enhancing the reputation of both TU Dublin and the School.

At the Lazaridis International Case Competition in Canada, a team comprising of Eleanor King, Sadhbh Hull, Adam Markey (BSc. Business and Management) and Gary O’Connor (BSc. Business and Law) finished joint first in a division that included the University of California, the University of Southern California and the University of Hong Kong. A great achievement.

At the Australian Undergraduate Business Case Competition hosted by the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia, a team which included Kate Flanagan and Naoise Finnie (BSc Business and Law) and Aoife Doyle and Jason Browne (BSc Business and Management) produce an excellent performance throughout the competition alongside the likes of the University of Navarra, Copenhagen Business School and the University of Florida.

At the International Business Case Competition organised by the University of Porto, a team involving Karl Johnston, Brian Bohan, Davis Bergin and Sean Crowley (BSc. Business and Management) competed against eleven other prestigious Universities from all over the world.

Head of the School of Management, People & Organisations, Dr. Roisin Donnelly applauded both sets of teams on their success and accomplishments. "I am delighted that the students have had these opportunities to showcase their individual and team talents. It was really heartening to hear of their experiences in the robust divisions in which they were placed in the three Undergraduate Business Case Competitions this semester in Canada, Australia and Portugal respectively; this achievement is a testament to the preparation, guidance and support they have been given by the dedicated academic team. Clearly the students all worked very hard and to a professional standard, performing at their utmost in such strong fields. I would like to add my personal congratulations to the students and staff concerned and know that the all-around experience that they got from this opportunity, and interacting with fellow students that they met from the other universities stands them in good stead for their ongoing study and future work. Through the inclusive and collaborative structure of the BSc. Business and Management and BSc. Business and Law programmes, the knowledge and skills that the participating students have undoubtedly developed extends to their peers across both programmes. Here’s to continued success in 2023 in Canada, Spain and Denmark".

Head of Discipline, Dr Pat Kenny, praised the commitment of both students and teaching staff in preparing for international case study competitions. "We are very proud of the students on our international case study teams. They consistently compete at a high level because of their own personal commitment and work ethic combined with the technical, analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills which are developed by our expert lecturers across all four years of the degree programmes".

The School case Team Lead Coach, Dr. Eoghan O’ Grady is grateful for the continued support of the School and the Faculty in supporting this learning opportunity for students and staff alike and adds “these competitions enhance the visibility and reputation of TU Dublin on a global scale and are also a critical prong of the ongoing roll-out of ‘case study’ as our signature pedagogy”.

Students from the School have qualified to compete at three other international strategy competitions in Semester 2 of the 2022/23 academic year. At the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition in Concordia University Montreal, the University of Navarra Case Competition in Pamplona, Spain and at the University Of Arhus Case Competition in Denmark. We wish those teams the very best of luck.
