Transition Year Programmes
Wondering what college is really like or what you might like to study after school? Our Transition Year (TY) programmes are a great way to explore your interests, try something new and get a taste of university life.
From science and technology to art, design, engineering and business, our programmes offer exciting opportunities to learn by doing. Take part in hands-on workshops, explore our campuses, meet lecturers and current students, and discover where your interests could take you.
Along the way, you'll develop valuable skills in creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, while meeting other TY students from schools across Ireland.
How to Take Part
Our TY programmes run throughout the academic year, with different opportunities available across TU Dublin's campuses. Places are limited, so explore the upcoming programmes below, speak to your TY Coordinator and apply early.
Each programme has its own dates, location and application process. Registration links will be published below as applications open.

Art and DesignInterested in Art & Design? Our TY programme offers students a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to study Art and Design at University and explore potential future study and career paths. Spend a week at our School of Art & Design, joining current students in classes and hands-on workshops. TY students will be scheduled to join classes on courses such as Fine Art, Visual Merchandising and Display, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, Creative Industries and Visual Culture or Product Design. |

Computer ScienceCurious about how apps, AI and smart devices work? Our hands-on Computer Science TY programme offers students an exciting opportunity to explore technology through fun, creative and practical activities. You'll discover how artificial intelligence (AI) is used in everyday life, explore how technology works and collaborate with other students to develop creative solutions to real-world challenges. You'll also learn about the benefits and limitations of AI and the importance of using technology responsibly. With a focus on AI literacy, creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, the programme offers a taste of what studying Computer Science at university could involve. No previous coding experience is needed – just curiosity, creativity and an interest in technology! |

MusicDiscover what it's like to study music at university with TU Dublin Conservatoire's Transition Year programme. Designed for students considering a degree in music, this programme offers an opportunity to experience life in a conservatoire, explore third-level music study and gain an insight into the Bachelor of Music (BMus) programme at TU Dublin. |

EngineeringCurious about engineering and how it shapes the world around us? Discover the exciting possibilities of a career in engineering with a week of hands-on activities, interactive workshops and real-world challenges across TU Dublin's campuses. Explore different areas of engineering, develop new skills and get a taste of what it's like to study engineering at university. This week-long programme is part of the Engineering Your Future initiative, coordinated by Engineers Ireland. |
