- Digital-First: The Unified Print Solution will support Technology Services proposal to reduce overall printing volume; reduction in printing will lead to costs and space savings and will facilitate improved document management.
- Streamlining the print fleet: The Unified Print Solution will facilitate the rationalisation of printers and the consolidation of print locations: the current printing infrastructure is fragmented and decentralised. Standardising the Print Services into a Unified Print Solution will help to improve operational efficiency, will ensure maintenance costs reduction, and will enhance Technology Services and subsidiaries’ ability to monitor, control, optimize and automate the University Printing-related activities.
- Sustainability Agenda: The Unified Print Solution will support Sustainability goals with the standardisation and the rationalisation of printing practices, by reducing paper usage and, thereby, minimising environmental impact.
- Green IT: The Unified Print Solution will allow the University to adopt a carbon-footprint reduction approach as part of the European Green Deal ; the new solution will incorporate environmentally friendly technologies, operations and practices to support the aspiration of becoming climate-neutral, further enhancing Technology Services commitment to sustainability.
- European Regulations and Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity policies, industry best practices and GDPR compliance are crucial due to the sensitive data handled by network-connected printers. Key measures will include secure printing, encrypted data transmission, regular firmware updates, zero-trust based configuration and calculated segregation of duties to manage access, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security.
- Standardisation of Additional Services: Evaluating potential reductions in reprographics services and implementing a student online top up approach only by eliminating Student Cash Top-up Services on the City and Tallaght Campuses.
