Course Title: Bachelor of Science in Computing in Secure Networking and Cloud Technologies (Learn and Work)
The Bachelor of Science in Computing in Secure Networking and Cloud Technologies (Learn+Work) is a practical, industry‑aligned Level 7 degree designed to prepare you for work in secure network, cloud and IT infrastructure environments. This unique Learn+Work programme blends formal academic study with extended, paid industry placements so you graduate with both the technical knowledge and real‑world experience employers are actively seeking.
Over three years you split your time between classroom learning and hands‑on work with leading technology organisations such as Vodafone, Eir, Netspeed, Fujifilm and Liberty IT. During placements, students work four days per week in professional settings and spend one day per week on academic study, which helps you build strong practical competence while earning valuable experience.
The curriculum covers key areas of networking, cloud and systems technologies. You learn foundational skills in computer systems infrastructure, routing and switching, network defence, server and system administration, IoT fundamentals and virtualisation. In later stages you focus on advanced topics such as cloud architecture, software‑defined networking and network function virtualisation, supported by practical labs using industry‑standard tools and equipment.
This programme also supports you to earn industry‑recognised certifications such as Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA), CompTIA A+, Linux Professional Institute LPIC‑1, Cisco Certified Support Technician - Cybersecurity (CCST) and VMware Certified Associate - Cloud (VCA‑Cloud), further strengthening your technical profile.
While the focus of the course is practical networking and cloud technologies, it also builds a foundation for engagement with emerging disciplines such as AI‑assisted network automation, secure cloud deployment and intelligent systems management - areas increasingly important as organisations rely on smarter, automated infrastructure and adapt to digital transformation.
Graduates are prepared for careers such as Cloud Engineer, Network Analyst, Network Security Consultant, Cloud Infrastructure Specialist and Systems Support Technician, with strong demand across sectors like finance, healthcare, telecommunications, education and government, reflecting the expanding need for secure network and cloud expertise.
Note: Work placement is not guaranteed and it is a competitive process. Students who are not successful in obtaining work placement will complete taught modules, professional projects and professional qualifications.
