Current Role, Activities and Interests
Alan is a Lecturer in Design Engineering in City Campus, Bolton Street. He has a B.Sc (Eng.) in Manufacturing Engineering (Hons) from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), and Masters in Applied Computing & Engineering Computation (Hons) from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
Alan's lecturing career began in 2002, and he has lectured on many programmes within the School of Mechanical Engineering in DIT/TU Dublin, primarily TU811 Product Design and TU701 Automation Engineering and Robotics. Alan has been the Year 1 Class Tutor for the TU811 Product Design programme since 2016.
His expertise lies in the CAD, Visualisation, Multimedia, Communications and Programming realms. The expertise in these fields is now fundamental to Alan's current research in Extended Reality (XR) implementations in engineering laboratory environments.
Industrial Background/Experience
Alan has over 20 years of professional software training and consultancy experience in the AEC sector, specifically in CAD, Visualisation and BIM, working with CAD/BIM managers to improve staff competency, improve internal CAD and Visualisation workflows and processes, and implement various BIM technologies.
