Lorna Matthews, Graduate

TU746 International Hospitality and Tourism Management

Personally, I enjoyed the diversity of the course. The wide range of modules paired with TU Dublin savvy lectures, offers a student a broad spectrum of industry knowledge. Not only did I gain operational experience with modules such as kitchen & restaurant skills, but the course also captured other divisions of the hospitality industry that you may one day find yourself in. It offered me a sample of every possible route that I might wish to take within the hospitality sector, whether I had wished to explore accounting, language, economics or sales and marketing. This also allowed me to see the bigger picture and begin to appreciate each and every aspect of what makes up the business.

After completing the course, I completed the Ascend Graduate Management Program with Dalata Hotel Group, who I’d heard about during my time with TU Dublin. This programme allowed me to gain experience in each and every department within a hotel and also empowered me to finally decide upon which route I wished to take within the industry, as there are many options to consider. I found my calling first in Sales and Marketing and then specifically in Marketing.

Becoming Group Brand Executive of a large and well-known hotel chain is something that I had never imagined I might one day accomplish and it is only one stop on my journey to success. I am responsible for guarding the brand and providing support to over 20 hotels within the group.

My time in New York during my internship was a huge milestone for me. I enjoyed every aspect of my trip! I made some great friends during my time in TU Dublin! I was also given many exciting opportunities throughout my course.

With such a wide and diverse scope of modules, you are sure to find everything you’re looking for in this course. After having decided not to do this course originally, I am very glad that I decided to go back and give it a go. It’s been the best decision I’ve made so far and my career has sky-rocketed so quickly because of it!
