An Academic Developer's View on Generative AI
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is bringing new challenges, questions, risks, and opportunities to higher education. At TU Dublin, the Learning Teaching Assessment (LTA) team encourages a human-centred, critical, ethical, and discipline-grounded approach to GenAI. This perspective recognises that technology should serve educational purposes rather than determine them, placing human judgement, disciplinary expertise, professional values, and educational relationships at the heart of teaching, learning, and assessment. The Foundations: GenAI in Learning, Teaching and Assessment section is your starting point. The GenAI: Critical, Ethical and Pedagogical Perspectives section will help you to critically evaluate opportunities, risks, associated with GenAI in teaching, learning, and assessment. In Teaching and Learning with AI - Making Informed Decisions you will explore how how to make informed, context-sensitive decisions about the use of GenAI. In GenAI and Assessment you will get practical guidance on designing, reviewing, and adapting assessment in the context of Generative AI. Communicating with Students about GenAI will help you to prepare to discuss expectations, promote responsible use, and support AI literacy with your students. Finally, the Artificial Intelligence Driving License, developed by Dr Derek Dodd is hosted in this section. This is a valuable tool that you can employ with your students to assist their development of AI Literacy.
